Ms. Mathews
Counselor
2024 Illinois School Counselor of the year winner! Ms. Mathews is Prescott’s school counselor, supporting all students in K-8th grade. She works with students to build their academic and social-emotional skills and grows their knowledge of college and careers through whole-class lessons, small groups, and individual counseling. Prescott’s school counseling program earned the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Recognized Model Program (RAMP) designation during the 2023 school year. She has been a counselor since 2018 and has worked in education since college. Ms. Mathews earned her school counseling degree at NYU and also holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Women’s Studies and master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Maryland as well as a graduate certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.

Students: I hope that students feel safe and supported at school, and that their connection to Prescott grows even stronger.
Colleagues: I hope that my colleagues find moments of joy in the work, even on tough days.
Self: My hope for myself is that I’m able to provide an equitable, effective, comprehensive school counseling program to all of our students.
