Prescott Elementary’s school counseling program earns national RAMP recognition

The American School Counselor Association awards Prescott Elementary highly-intensive national RAMP designation for its exemplary school counseling program

CHICAGO (April 23, 2023) – William H. Prescott Elementary School’s school counseling program has just become one of only six CPS schools and one of only 30 schools across Illinois to earn the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) national Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation. This highly intensive, national accreditation recognizes school counseling programs that are comprehensive, data-driven, and impact student success.

This recognition comes soon after Prescott received the highest “Exemplary” rating on the Illinois State Board of Education’s 2022 Illinois Report Card because Prescott is in the top ten percent of all public schools in Illinois for academic performance.

“During a time when our students and families need more support than ever, we are fortunate to have such a high-quality, nationally-recognized counseling program that benefits all our students,” said Prescott Elementary School Principal Erin Roche. “Thanks to Counselor Marisa Mathews and students, teachers, staff, and families for engaging in the intersection of social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and academic progress for all of our students. This is an outstanding accomplishment!”

The ASCA’s rigorous RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering an exemplary school counseling program. Honorees are awarded for aligning their program with the criteria in the ASCA National Model, a framework for a data-informed school counseling program. Research findings indicate that fully implemented school counseling programs are associated with a range of positive student educational and behavioral outcomes.

“The RAMP designation recognizes Prescott’s commitment to the whole child and shows that we are meeting the academic, postsecondary, and socio-emotional needs of all of our students through a data-driven, equity lens,” said Prescott Elementary School Counselor Marisa Mathews. “It allows families, students, and staff, both current and future, to know that Prescott meets students where they are and frequently evaluates their comprehensive school counseling program to ensure that the services we provide are relevant, culturally responsive, and making a positive impact on students’ lives.”

Prescott Elementary will be honored at a recognition ceremony at ASCA’s annual conference in Atlanta, GA on July 17, 2023.

“This year’s RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school counseling profession,” said Jill Cook, ASCA executive director. “These schools used data to drive their program development and implementation so all students can achieve success. The RAMP designation distinguishes these schools and encourages school counselors nationwide to strive for excellence.”

Congratulations, Prescott Elementary!
